Sana Jan (name changed) is a hearing-Impaired girl from Kabul city. Her father’s name is Mohammad Naser. She is 7 years old. She lives with her three sisters, two brothers, father and mother.
Since she could not hear, Sana used to be very sad. Even her mother and father were desperate. They were worried for her future and how she would take care of herself without receiving any education. They tried to admit her in a school, but she could not get admission since they did not have any provision to teach hearing impaired children in the school. The family felt very hopeless and frustrated. They did not know how to help her.
Serve project staff came in contact with her during a survey that was carried out in their locality. The survey team included her as beneficiary and helped to admit her in an Inclusive Education school. When she saw other hearing-impaired children, she was very happy. The project provided her educational materials. The AFSL interpreter guided and taught her sign language.
Now she is in grade 1. She has learnt many new things. She is enjoying the school environment and is happy to have other hearing-impaired friends.
