Zahida is 30 years old, earthquake survivor. Her house was destroyed by the earthquake and she lives in Noorgal camp with 7 family members.
She lived in an area that is one of the most earthquake prone in the country. In the 31st August 2025 earthquake, homes in the community were either destroyed or left unsafe, forcing families to live in temporary shelters such as tents. Basic infrastructure, including roads, water supply, and other facilities, were disrupted or completely damaged.
These sudden changes and problems affected her mental health and she developed extreme anxiety. The beneficiary experienced ongoing fear, anxiety, and stress, especially due to aftershocks and uncertainty of the future.
The beneficiary described feeling overwhelmed, frightened, and deeply distressed after the earthquake. She reported constant fear, especially when thinking about the moment the earthquake struck and the possibility of it happening again. At night, she struggled to sleep due to anxiety and recurring memories of the event.
Through the survey she was selected as beneficiary and she received 12,800/AFN like other beneficiaries. She also visited the Project’s psychosocial counsellors and availed the PFA facility provided by the Serve. The counsellor referred some of the serious patient to the clinics for treatment. She was one of those referred ones. She visited the clinic three times. As a result of the MHPSS support provided through the project, the beneficiary has experienced a positive change in their emotional well-being and daily functioning.
