Abdul (name changed), son of Mr. Janat Gull. He is eight years old, and he belongs to a poor family. His father is a farmer. There are 13 members in his family. He lives in Zargaran village of Shewa district. He attends the Pre-school program run by the project.
There is no mother tongue education system in the government school to provide education for minority children. Since Pashai children speak only in their mother tongue, it was not possible for them to understand Pashto language which is the medium of communication in the government run schools. Since all the lessons and books are in Pashto language in government schools, the Pashai language speaking children are unable to do well in their studies leading to many Pashai children dropping out of school.
Abdul is an able and intelligent boy, but he did not understand Pashto language and so his father enrolled in the Pre-school programmes run by Serve. The project enrolled him in pre-school. He is now in the 2nd year and 2nd semester of pre-school. He is now able to understand Pashto a little bit and he is doing well in his studies.
Now the participant is getting good marks and familiar with the Pashto language lessons. After the completion of preschool, he will be able join the government run school and study in Pashto language.
